TradingView Alerts Not Firing? The Pine Script Reasons and Fixes
Your strategy works but alerts never fire? Nine times out of ten it's one of these Pine Script issues — wrong scope, missing condition, or the wrong alert function.
Why alerts silently fail
Few things are more frustrating than a strategy that backtests perfectly but never sends an alert. The good news: the cause is almost always one of a short list of Pine Script issues, and each has a clean fix.
The checklist
- You never created the alert in TradingView's dialog — code alone isn't enough; you must add the alert on the chart
- alertcondition() is inside an if block — it must be in global scope
- The alert() line is never reached — its if condition is never true (test the condition with a plotshape)
- Using a strategy alert but the order never fires — check your entry logic first
- freq set to once_per_bar but you expected once_per_bar_close (or vice versa)
Tip
Add a plotshape() on the same condition as your alert. If the shape never appears on the chart, the condition is the problem — not the alert.
Get it right from the start
