How to Add a Stop Loss and Take Profit in Pine Script v6
The right way to add stops and targets to a Pine Script strategy — as price levels stored at entry, not percentages recalculated every bar. With code.
Stops and targets are price levels
The single most common strategy bug we see: stops and targets recalculated from strategy.position_avg_price on every bar. That value drifts on pyramiding and partial fills, so your stop quietly moves. Worse, some scripts pass a percentage where Pine expects a price.
The correct approach: compute the stop and target as actual price levels at the moment of entry, store them in var float variables, and feed them to strategy.exit.
The pattern that works
Notice the stop and target are set once, inside the entry block, off the entry bar's close. They're reset to na when the position is flat so a stale level never leaks into the next trade.

One strategy.exit with both stop= and limit= covers your stop loss and take profit in a single line — don't use separate exits for each.
Risk:reward in one number
Express your target as a multiple of risk. If your stop is 1.5x ATR below entry, a 2:1 reward:reward target is 3.0x ATR above. This keeps your strategy honest — you always know the trade math before you take it.
